About RightDome

RightDome was created to provide a low cost and effective way to protect your treasured observing equipment. It is a comfortable place that encourages your voyage into the universe with a minimum of effort.

The dome is very resistant to wind and moisture.  Although it has not seen a hurricane as of yet the dome has weathered a few "Nor'easters" with wind gusts of 60+ mph.  The structure did not show any measurable deformities during or after these events.

The dome "fins" form a self-sealing unit to keep out the elements.  Since the structure is entirely manufactured of waterproof materials it performs well and requires very little maintenance.

Each hemisphere of the dome, as well as the fins, can be operated independently.  If the dome pinions are in an east west configuration, a slit opening will be in alignment with the earth's rotation, and thus with the equatorial movement of the telescope.

The polycarbonate sheet used for the dome fins has a thermal insulation K value of 3.5+ and is fire rated as a self extinguishing material.  The balance of the material used for the dome, depending on the model, is either MDO plywood or sheet PVC.  All of these materials perform exceptionally well in exterior applications.
